Shared mobility in Russia - statistics & facts
Taxis and bikes
Taxi or ride-hailing is by far the most developed segment of shared mobility in Russia, with projected market revenue to exceed 8.5 billion U.S. dollars by 2025. Yandex.taxi is the dominant player, making up roughly two-thirds of the market and generating about 85 billion Russian rubles from mobility services in 2021.Compared to the aforementioned means of shared transportation, bike and scooter-sharing services are less developed in the country at present. Nevertheless, city bikes are gaining popularity in the Russian capital every year. This is reflected in the growing fleet of city bikes, stations, and the annual number of bike rides. However, after significant growth in 2020, bike-sharing market revenues dropped by two million U.S. dollars in 2021 relative to the previous year.
Carsharing
Accelerated expansion of carsharing is gradually weakening the dominance of taxis in the Russian shared mobility arena. Despite setbacks in 2020 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, carsharing user numbers are set for steady growth. As a result of numerous mergers and acquisitions, the number of carsharing providers saw a slight decline over the past year. Yandex is a stable leader in this segment as well, with Yandex.Drive counting 21 thousand vehicles in its car park as of 2021.Customer satisfaction from car sharing experiences in Russia is closely related to the cost-effectiveness and comfort provided. Russian customers have been choosing carsharing services more frequently in recent years. YouDrive was the most preferred brand after Yandex.Drive by users, as of 2021.
