In 2017, half of the motorcycles circulating in Rome belonged to the Euro 3 class. Euro 4 motorcycles accounted for only four percent of the total, while Euro 0 motorcycles, the most polluting kind, represented 16 percent of the number of motorcycles in the Italian capital.

*The European emission standards define emission limits for vehicles. The most stringent one, the Euro 6 standards, were introduced for light vehicles in September 2014. Since 2015, all newly introduced models in Europe had to comply with them. By contrast, Euro 0 vehicles are not subject to any emission requirements and are the most polluting category.
