In 2017, every other motorcycles circulating in the Italian city of Genoa were classified as Euro 3. Euro 0 motorcycles, the most polluting kind, represented 19 percent of the total. Only six percent of the motorcycles belonged to the Euro 4 class.

*The European emission standards define emission limits for vehicles. The most stringent one, the Euro 6 standards, were introduced for light vehicles in September 2014. Since 2015, all newly introduced models in Europe had to comply with them. By contrast, Euro 0 vehicles are not subject to any emission requirements and are the most polluting category.
