Sky TV subscriptions in German households 2018

This statistic presents the results of a survey on the number of persons with a Sky subscription in their household in Germany from 2014 to 2018. In 2018, around 8.17 million persons in the German-speaking population aged fourteen and older indicated that they were subscribed to the pay TV broadcaster Sky.

Information on the population: Based on the German-speaking population aged 14 years and older residing in private households with their main residence in Germany. Information on the entire sample:
2014: 25,363 respondents, extrapolated to 70.52 million persons
2015: 25,140 respondents, extrapolated to 69.24 million persons
2016: 23,854 respondents, extrapolated to 69.56 million persons
2017: 23,356 respondents, extrapolated to 70.09 million persons
2018: 23,389 respondents, extrapolated to 70.45 million persons

The question in the survey was phrased as follows: "In addition to ARD, ZDF and the various other private broadcasters, there are also pay TV providers such as Sky or Kabel Deutschland, for which you have to pay a subscription for. Have you subscribed to Sky, Kabel Deutschland or any other such provider, or is this not the case?" (Original question in German: "Neben ARD und ZDF und den verschiedenen Privatsendern gibt es auch Pay-TV-Anbieter wie z.B. Sky oder Kabel Deutschland, die man extra abonnieren muss. Haben Sie Sky, Kabel Deutschland oder einen anderen solchen Anbieter abonniert, oder ist das nicht der Fall?")
