The level of awareness about the human papillomavirus (HPV) among parents in Italy increased overall between 2017 and 2022. According to a survey on the topic, in 2022, 87.4 percent of respondents were aware that HPV was the virus responsible for cervix cancer, while 82.4 percent knew that HPV caused different diseases of genital apparatus, both benign or malignant, but most often it remained asymptomatic. However, 24.8 percent of parents believed that HPV could affect only women.
