This data show the results of a survey about the information sources normally used in Germany. In 2023, around 80 percent of the German-speaking population searched the internet if they wanted to find more detailed and comprehensive information. The Allensbach Market and Advertising Media Analysis (Allensbacher Markt- und Werbeträgeranalyse or AWA in German) determines attitudes, consumer habits and media usage of the population in Germany on a broad statistical basis.
Friends and family vs. the media
While web searches were a popular method of obtaining information, the majority of respondents preferred to ask relatives, friends and acquaintances. In terms of the media, these were increasingly less used by the population for information purposes. While television continued to lead among so-called traditional media, the same could not be said for newspapers, magazines and the radio. This could be connected to the fact that trust and distrust in the media are equally present among the global population.
Where to look
The type of source used for finding information depends on what kind of information the user is searching for and on the user's profile. One example is political affiliation. Just over a third of Bündnis 90/die Grünen supporters used social media as a source of information . When researching goods and services, however, the majority of Germans searched online.

Multiple answers were possible for this question, so the sum of the percentages can exceed 100%.
