This statistic depicts the results of a survey into mortgage customers whose home was worth less or equal to the amount owed in Australia between September 2017 and August 2018. During the survey period, 6.1 percent of respondents in New South Wales stated that their homes were worth less than or equal to the amount they owed on their mortgages. By comparison, in Western Australia 16.5 percent said their homes were worth less or equal to the amount they owed. In total, 8.9 percent of respondents from all over Australia stated to have a home that was worth less or equal to the amount owing.
