2020 so far has only seen the development of two metro systems in one region -the Asia-pacific region. The decade 2010-2019 was big for the construction of metro systems infrastructure. During that decade alone, 56 networks were built. In the 1960s, the total number of metro systems opened in every region was nine. A significant rise in the number of new openings was seen starting from the 1970s where the figures doubled, and ultimately sky-rocketed between 2010-2019.
