Gross written premiums
Gross written premium for life insurance (marriage, annuity, accident, sickness, etc.) amounted to 22.1 billion zloty, non-life insurance (motor vehicle, fire, and other property damage, etc.) amounted to 47.8 billion zloty in 2021. In contrast to gross life insurance premiums written, the value of non-life insurance premiums increased compared to the previous year. The market share of life insurance business in terms of gross premium (ratio of gross life insurance premium to total gross premium) has been decreasing since 2012 and reached the lowest level in 2019 at 32.3 percent. The largest group of insurances in terms of the premium collected were capital fund-linked life insurances. As far as non-life insurance is concerned, the highest value of gross premiums written was achieved by motor vehicle insurance.
Gross claims
The total value of claims paid by insurers in 2021 amounted to 18.4 billion zloty for life insurance and nearly 21.7 billion zloty for non-life and motor insurance. Only the latter recorded an increase in the indemnities paid out on the previous year. The largest share in the payment of claims from non-life insurance was represented by Casco insurance of land vehicles.
