Number of beds in public and private hospitals in Turkey 2000-2022
Since 2000, the number of hospital beds in both public and private inpatient institutions in Turkey has increased. There were 163,207 thousand beds in public hospitals in Turkey in 2022, while in the same year private inpatient institutions had over 55,000 beds.
Healthcare employees in Turkey
The number of healthcare employees in Turkey has also been increasing over the years. The number of healthcare professionals in Turkey has almost doubled in the past decade. In addition, the number of nurses employed in Turkey amounted to almost 243,600 in 2022, an increase of about 250 percent compared to the figures in 2000.
Spending indicators on health
Turkey’s expenditure on healthcare made up 4.3 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2022. In comparison to other European countries, Turkey ranked exceptionally low on the list. Germany had the highest share of expenditure on health, spending 12.7 percent of its GDP in this year.
