In 2021, Brazil was the largest iron ore producer in Latin America, with an output of 240 million metric tons of metal content. The country was also the second largest iron ore producer worldwide, only behind Australia. Chile, in turn, was the largest copper producer in the region, also leading in worldwide copper production, with around 5.6 million tons of copper produced that year.
