The number point of sale (POS) transactions in Greece rose drastically between 2012 and 2023, despite some fluctuations. In 2012, the number of point of sale transactions amounted to approximately 57 million. By 2023, the number of POS transactions had increased to over 1.09 billion. After 2015, the amount of cash used in Greece started to plummet, going from 95.3 percent of all payments in 2015 to 62.2 percent in 2021.
