The number of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan examinations conducted in Spain increased by 211.5 thousand scans (+4.06 percent) in 2022. With 5.4 million scans, the number of MRI scans thereby reached its highest value in the observed period. MRI is an imaging technique designed to visualise internal structures of the body using magnetic and electromagnetic fields which induce a resonance effect of hydrogen atoms. The electromagnetic emission created by these atoms is registered and processed by a dedicated computer to produce the images of the body structures.
