This statistic presents the results of a survey conducted in 2018 about the perceived share of women suffering from physical or sexual abuse by their partner or spouse in Japan, based on the gender of respondents.
According to data published by Ipsos, female respondents guessed that 28 percent of women in Japan had suffered from physical or sexual violence. The actual share of victims stood at 15 percent, which indicated a 12 percent difference to what male and female respondents in Japan estimated.

*19,428 respondents in 27 countries around the world were surveyed via the Ipsos Online Panel System.
Data was weighted to match the profile of the population, therefore the survey generated nationally representative samples.
The source worded the question as follows: "Out of every 100 women in Japan, how many do you think say they have been a victim of physical and/or sexual violence by a current or former partner or spouse at some point in their life?".
