According to a 2019 survey, 37 percent of bakeries and pastry shops in Brazil reported a higher production of French-type bread in the first quarter of that year in comparison to the first quarter of of the previous year, while 63 percent reported a decrease in production during the same period. In Brazil, regular bread is commonly known as "pão francês" (Portuguese for "French bread"), which includes baguette-type bread as well as other types of bread buns.
