In 2017, the months of August and December listed the highest number of same-sex unions, both celebrating 37 civil marriages. That year, a total of 341 same-sex couples contracted civil marriage within the national territory.

The Constitutional Court of Colombia opened the way for same sex marriage in April 2016. Colombia was the fourth South American country allowing same-sex marriage.
