In 2020, the R&D expenditure on biotechnology-related activities made by universities and colleges in Spain amounted to around 477.6 million euros, the highest figure reported since 2009. During the analyzed period, universities have increased their spending on research and development for biotech activities by about 50 percent. That same year, the Spanish public administration allocated approximately 678.6 million euros in R&D for biotechnology.
