The annual number of international tourists in Italy experienced a sharp decrease in 2020 over the previous year due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In 2019 roughly 80.5 million travelers visited Italy for personal reasons, while around 30 million visitors did the same in 2020. Meanwhile, the number of international business tourists declined from 15.6 million in 2019 to approximately nine million in 2020.
