In 2022, the number of deaths due to infectious and parasitic diseases totaled close to 39,000 cases in Spain, down from over 46,000 deaths reported a year earlier. Although this figure remained relatively stable throughout the period, the peak in deaths from infectious diseases registered in 2020 is consistent with the emergence of COVID-19 in the European country. Deaths from these infectious and parasitic diseases affected mostly older segments of the Spanish population, especially those between 85 and 89 years.
