The number of employees in the construction industry in Spain have decreased two years in a row in 2020 and 2021, falling by around 10 percent since 2019. The year with the highest amount of employed professionals was 2009, with 125.3 points in the employee index. Employment in the industry plummeted during the following years, and stood at 82.6 points in 2012. The number of hours worked in the construction industry in Spain also has followed similar trends.
Employment in the construction industry in Spain from 2009 to 2021
The statistics presents the results of the Survey of Production Indices of the Construction Industry (EIPIC). This survey is carried out in order to evaluate the evolution of the main variables of the companies whose main activity is construction (CNAE-2009).
* The number of employed persons includes the number of paid and unpaid persons in the construction sector. This does not include persons who perform work on behalf of another company, members of the board of directors remunerated exclusively for their assistance, persons on leave or limited leave, retirees or those who are rendering military service or substitute social benefit.
