In 2022, the number of registered insurance brokerages in Spain exceeded 3,710, a slight growth compared to the one experienced between 2015 and 2016. The number of insurance brokerages registered in Spain increased gradually from 2011 to 2015. However, the amount of insurance brokerages surged the following year, moving from 2,288 to 3,254.

According to the Law 26/2006 , of 17 of July, of mediation private insurance and reinsurance, "insurance brokers are individuals or legal entities engaged in the commercial activity of private insurance mediation [...] without maintaining contractual links involving insurance companies, and offering independent, professional and impartial to those who demand the coverage of the risks to which their persons, assets, interests or responsibilities are exposed. "
