During this time period, the number of employed persons in special construction fell from approximately 10.92 million in 2008 to 8.9 million in 2019, although this is a rise from the years prior.
Special construction activities fall under the EU-28 construction industry, which had an annual turnover of 1.89 trillion euros in 2018.

The source adds the following information: "Employed persons are persons aged 15 and over who performed work, even for just one hour per week, for pay, profit or family gain during the reference week or were not at work but had a job or business from which they were temporarily absent because of, for instance, illness, holidays, industrial dispute, and education or training."
