Female prison population in Italy 2021, by region

As of October 2021, the Italian region with the highest number of women in prison was Lazio, in the Center of Italy, with 386 female prisoners. In the Northern region of Lombardy, the female prison population amounted to 368, the second largest amount in the country. In total, Italy' female prison population was 2.3 thousand, whereas the male prison population was over 50 thousand.
