Spending of international tourists in Italy increased sharply in 2023 over the previous year, recovering from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Both before and after the onset of the health crisis, travelers from European countries within the euro area reported the highest figure, with inbound spending reaching 23.3 billion euros in 2023. That year, European travelers from non-EU countries recorded the second-highest expenditure in Italy, at nearly 8.8 billion euros.
