About 76 percent of respondents stated to have used this subscription video on demand (SVoD) platform. NRK TV, the online television service of public broadcaster Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, ranked second. YouTube was watched by 44 percent of Norwegians and thus, came in third place.

Watching video on the internet has become increasingly popular in recent years. The share of Norwegians viewing online movies, TV or video clips daily grew from 28 percent in 2010 to 64 percent as of 2020. The share of video on demand subscribers in Norway even increased to 71 percent that year.

How popular is traditional TV within the age groups?

However, there were significant differences in whether different age groups in Norway preferred to watch online TV or traditional TV in 2020. To give an example, almost 73 percent of individuals aged 60 years and older watched traditional TV only that year. By contrast, the corresponding figure for 20 to 29-year-olds was 9 percent. Nearly half of Norwegians in this age group only used streaming services to watch TV broadcasts.
