In 2023, the value of tourism expenditure by international visitors in Japan amounted to around 5.31 trillion Japanese yen, setting a new record. Tourism consumption generated by foreign travelers nearly disappeared with the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic as there were no inbound travelers to spend any money but recovered fully in 2023.
