This statistic shows the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) assets and liabilities as share of GDP in Luxembourg as of 2016. It shows that the ratio of the FDI assets outweighed the FDI liabilities. A Foreign Direct Investment is an investment made by a company or individual in one country in business interests in another country, in the form of either establishing business operations or acquiring business assets in the other country, such as ownership or controlling interest in a foreign company. Luxembourg is an international financial center in the European Union, with over 140 international banks having an office in the country. As of May 2017, banks in the Grand Duchy have different countries of origin, with 24 of these coming from Germany and 15 banks from France. In the most recent Global Financial Centers Index, Luxembourg was ranked as having the third most competitive financial center in Europe after London and Zürich.
