This statistic shows the benefits of independent reading time for students, as assessed by teachers, principals, and school librarians in the United States in 2016, by reading benefit. The survey included teachers who set time aside for independent reading, alongside principals and school librarians of schools with school-wide independent initiatives. In 2016, about 38 percent of the educators assessed that independent reading time increased overall the students' skills and achievements levels.
