Number of Starbucks stores in Sweden 2018, by city
The U.S. American coffeehouse chain Starbucks expanded in 2018 to roughly 29 thousand stores around the world. As of July 2018, 69 of these were located in the Nordic countries. In Sweden, the chain only operated 15 stores. Most of them were in the capital Stockholm, the other stores were based in Täby and six more Swedish cities.
Competitor: Espresso House
In comparison, the number of Espresso House stores in Sweden was much higher. As of September 2018, there were 241 stores located all over the country. Espresso House serves espresso-based coffee drinks as well as brewed coffee, sandwiches, salads and pastries, among others. The company operates the coffee-chain across Europe.
Roasted coffee
In the 10-year period from 2007 to 2017, the consumption volume of roasted coffee fluctuated. According to preliminary figures for 2017, Swedes consumed almost 78 metric tons of roasted coffee in total. This was a per capita consumption volume of 7.7 kilograms during that year. Coffee and warm drinks in general enjoy great popularity in Sweden.
