The volume of coal stock in power plants across India amounted to around 28 million metric tons in fiscal year 2016. Coal dominated the country's power supply with a contribution of over 70 percent through thermal power plants. According to the Central Electricity Authority of India however, about 50 percent of the country's power supply will be generated by renewable energy sources by the year 2030.
