This statistic shows the share of house purchases without a mortgage in the Netherlands in 2016, by type of buyer. In 2016, approximately 58 percent of home buyers with a foreign address chose not to close a mortgage when purchasing a house in the Netherlands.
In recent years, the housing market has continued to rise in the Netherlands due the asset purchase program (APP) of the European Central Bank and the, consequently, low mortgage rates. As a consequence, the number of mortgages sold in the Netherlands reached approximately 307,000 in 2016.
