University tuition increases every year
University tuition fees in South Korea have been slowly increasing each year, reaching around 6.8 million South Korean won on average in 2023. Not a few students work part-time to cover their expensive tuition fees. In response, the government has pressured universities not to raise their tuition fees to guarantee the basic life of the younger generation. Accordingly, the tuition fees of public universities have remained relatively steady in recent years. However, private universities are still raising their tuition every year as their financial management is somewhat free from government regulations.
Higher education in South Korea
University enrollment rates in South Korea have risen steadily over the past few decades, but the number of students has fallen in recent years. South Korea has numerous colleges and universities, but the competition to get into top-tier universities is intense. As a result, students often attend private after-school tutoring to increase their chances of acceptance.
