As of the survey period, the export volume of Italian PGI (protected geographic indication) sparkling wines hit its lower peak in 2011 with about 35.4 thousand hectoliters. However, from then on there was a slow increase in the export volume of sparkling wine which peaked in 2016 and 2017 with 131 thousand hectoliters exported in foreign countries. As of 2020, the export volume of Italian PGI sparkling wines amounted to 101 thousands hectoliters.
