Total music album sales in the United States amounted to 93 million in 2019, down from 121.2 million a year earlier. In fact, sales of all formats decreased by more than twenty percent, with the exception of cassette sales which dropped by just 11.5 percent, and vinyl sales which actually increased by 10.5 percent, reaching 10.7 million in 2019. CD albums made up the majority of physical album sales, following vinyl records.
