This statistic displays the distribution of adults in the U.S. who were prescribed opioids between 2006 and 2015, by region. It was found that about 37 percent of people that were prescribed opioids between 2006 and 2015 lived in the southern region of the United States.

Figures include those who had at least one opioid prescription during June 1, 2006–September 1, 2015, and ≥6 months of continuous enrollment without an opioid prescription before their first opioid prescription.
