In 2020, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic disrupted travel and tourism, as countries worldwide put in place emergency measures and lockdowns to limit the spread of the virus. That year, roughly 40 percent of all outbound holiday trips taken by Italians included stays at homes of friends and relatives, while they represented approximately 31 percent of vacations abroad in 2019. Meanwhile, the share of outbound holidays with hotel stays declined from over 41 percent in 2019 to around 30 percent in 2020.

Rented house/rented room include: bed and breakfast.
Other kind of collective facilities include: holiday villages, campsites, marinas, and other collective facilities.
Specialized collective facilities include: residences for physical/beauty treatment, volunteer workcamps and holiday camps, places in means of public transport (couchettes, sleeping cars, etcetera), congress and conference centers.
