In 2014, startup funding in Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark and Iceland exceeded 1.3 billion U.S. dollar. This was the highest funding during the period from 2012 to 2016. In 2016 funding had decreased to 875 million U.S. dollar. The highest funding for startups among the Nordic countries was raised in Sweden, where it amounted to 373 million U.S. dollar.
Sol Voltaics raised the highest funds
Among the startup companies in the Nordic region in 2016, the Swedish Sol Voltaics from Lund raised the highest funds , which reached 29.5 million U.S. dollar. The startup produces solar nanotechnology solutions that boosts the efficiency of solar panels, and are about to commercialize their patented products Aerotaxy® and SolFilm™ .
10.3 percent of 18-24 year olds involved in startups in Sweden
When Global Entrepreneurship Monitor was released in 2019, it was revealed that 10.3 percent of the Swedish respondents from 18 to 24 years were involved in business start-ups. This was the age group where it was most common to be involved in a business start-up, compared to the age group of 55 to 64 years, where 4.2 percent were involved in start-ups.
