Health care facilities lacking improved water sources 2014, by region
This statistic shows the percentage of health care facilities in three WHO regions that did not have an improved water supply within 500 meters of their facilities as of 2014. An improved water source is considered a source that is likely protected from outside contamination, either naturally or by construction. According to the WHO, 42 percent of health care facilities in Sub-Saharan Africa did not have an improved water source, while 24 percent of those in South-East Asia also did not. Per the WHO, many patients in developing countries will develop secondary infections due to lack of quality hygiene, basic water facilities and/or proper sanitation.
