Number of enterprises in the restaurant industry in Denmark 2008-2016
In Denmark, there has been a steady increase in the number of enterprises in the restaurant industry in recent years. In 2016, there were roughly 16.9 thousand companies registered. Since 2008, most of these restaurants had two to four employees, while the number of enterprises in the restaurant industry employing 100 people or more stayed between 10 and 20 in Denmark.

Companies in the Danish restaurant industry generated a growing revenue in the years from 2012 to 2016. The industry’s revenue amounted to approximately 42 billion Danish kroner as of 2016. In this year, the revenue of restaurants was highest, reaching just over 21 billion Danish kroner. Café, pubs and discotheques came in second place, followed by pizzerias, snack bars and ice cream parlors.
Visitors
In 2017, the most popular restaurant type among Danes seemed to be coffeehouses as the number of visitors here was highest. In this year, more than 62 million visitors to coffeehouses were recorded. Around seven thousand Danes visited grill houses and pizzerias.
