This statistic displays the prevalence of doctor-diagnosed arthritis in the adult population in the United States from 2013 to 2015, adjusted for age, by heart disease diagnosis. From 2013 to 2015 19.1 percent of the survey respondents without heart disease indicated that they had a doctor-diagnosed form of arthritis; while 36.4 percent of those with heart disease had been diagnosed with arthritis. Arthritis is a leading cause of disability and a common chronic condition in the United States.

*Doctor-diagnosed arthritis was defined as an affirmative response to the question “Have you ever been told by a doctor or other health professional that you have some form of arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, lupus, or fibromyalgia?"
Age-adjusted to the 2000 U.S. projected adult population, using three age groups: 18–44, 45–64, and ≥65 years.
