The number of international tourist arrivals in Germany declined dramatically in 2020 over the previous year due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Overall, the Netherlands was the leading inbound travel market in 2020. That year, travel accommodations in Germany recorded roughly 2.3 million arrivals of Dutch travelers, while tourist arrivals from the Netherlands reached over 4.8 million in 2019. Meanwhile, the number of tourist arrivals from Switzerland dropped from nearly four million in 2019 to around 1.4 million in 2020.
