The share of immigrants to the United States who are Mexican-born has been on the rise since 1950, although it has declined in recent years. In 2019, 24.3 percent of all immigrants to the U.S. were Mexican-born. This is a decrease from a high of 29.5 percent in 2000.

The term "immigrants" (also known as the foreign born) refers to people residing in the United States who were not U.S. citizens at birth. This population includes naturalized citizens, legal permanent residents, certain legal non-immigrants (e.g., refugees and persons on student or work visas), and persons illegally residing in the United States.
