Get in touch with us nowIn financial year 2022, the volume of zinc concentrate production in India amounted to an estimated 1.49 million metric tons. This is estimated to have increased to around 1.53 million metric tons of zinc concentrate in financial year 2024.
As of 2022, India was ranked as the world's fourth-largest zinc mining country, with mine production having amounted to an estimated 830,000 metric tons. Furthermore, India's zinc reserves amounted to an estimated 9.6 million metric tons that year, which placed India as having the seventh-largest zinc reserves in the world. India is home to several of the world's largest zinc mines, including the Rampura Agucha mine, which produced some 434,240 metric tons of zinc concentrate in 2022, and which was the third-leading zinc producing mine in the world that year. Since 2018, there has been a ban on open cast mining of zinc in India.
In the financial year 2022, the value of India's exports of zinc and its products amounted to over one billion U.S. dollars. There was also considerable imports and exports of zinc slab from India in 2021.
