This statistic shows the opinion of Arab youth on whose governmental subsidies for energy, electricity, and transportation fuel should be removed in the Middle East and North Africa as of February 2016. In 2016, a 37 percent share of the respondents stated that they were in favor of state subsidies for energy and fuel to be removed for both nationals an expatriates, including nationals and expatriates.
For whom should the state subsidies on energy and fuel be removed?*
*The phrasing of this survey question as it appears in the report is as follows:"If your government were to stop subsidiesing energy, electricity and transportation fuel, do you think subsidies should be removed for...”.
The countries covered by this survey were Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia, and Yemen.
The survey did not include Syria due to the ongoing civil war there.
Respondents were exclusevly comprised of citizens of the countries outlined above, with 50% male and 50% female respondents.
The margin of error for this survey is +/-1.65 per cent.
Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates had 300 respondents. Iraq had 250 respondents and Palestine had 150. Each remaining country had 200 respondents.
The majorty of respondents were from urban areas.
