In 2021, the share of online supermarket revenue of the total supermarket revenue amounted to roughly 5,5 percent in the Netherlands. Albert Heijn, Jumbo and Picnic were the three biggest online supermarkets in the Netherlands in 2021, together taking up more than half of the market. Based on survey results, the most cited argument not to buy food online was that there is a supermarket already close to home. Another reason was that consumers preferred to check the product’s quality before purchasing.
