Approximately 0.3 million Indian farmers were insured under the Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme for Rabi crops in fiscal year 2015. This was a decrease compared to the previous year. The number of farmers insured under the scheme had observed a decline starting from fiscal year 2013.

Rabi or winter crops are sown in mid-November and harvested in spring between Aprila and May in India. Wheat, oats, barleya are examples of cereals which are Rabi crops.
Note: India's financial year begins in April and ends in March. For example, FY 2016 started in April 2015 and ended in March 2016.
