In 2022, the public expenditure for pensions reached 15.6 percent of the Gross Domestic Product, beyond 322 billion euros. According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance's forecasts, the spending is projected to grow to 17 percent in 2040, while in 2070 the expenditure for pensions should reach figures below the 2022 level.
