In 2023, the transmission of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) was generally higher than among women who have sex with women (WSW). The number of cases of gonorrhea diagnosed among GBMSM amounted to over 40 thousand diagnoses in 2023. The source also stated the following: "Data by sexual orientation and age group for regions is masked to maintain confidentiality due to the risk of deductive disclosure posed by small population sizes (under 10,000). Data is masked using shorthand [c]=confidential data. Residence data represent STI testing and diagnoses for people resident in England (by region) accessing SHSs located in England. Data for those resident outside of England (Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland or abroad) is not presented."
