highest share of users in Denmark. 70 percent of the interviewed people said they used Facebook in 2018. This was twice as much as Snapchat, with 35 percent of the Danes reporting to have used it. Over half of the respondents to a survey conducted in 2017 stated to have used Facebook several times a day. Among the other popular apps in 2017 and 2018 were Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, WhatsApp and Twitter. Overall, the share of social media users increased over the evaluated period.
Comparing the Danes who participated in social networks in 2011, to those who did in 2018, the percentage increasedby over 20 percent. Since 2016, the share of social network participants had exceeded 70 percent.
The Nordic countries ranked high in the list of European countries with most social network users. First came Iceland, followed by Norway and Denmark. Sweden ranked fifth, right after Belgium. Last in the ranking that year were Slovenia, Italy and France, each with less than 50 percent of the population using social networks.
