Cases progressing into AIDS
The later stages of HIV are referred to as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The cases of AIDS have generally fallen over the same period, resulting in 44 cases in 2021, down from 167 cases in 2006.
State in the rest of Europe
In 2021, the demographic with the highest amount of new diagnoses of HIV in Europe was males aged 30 to 39 years, with approximately 25.7 thousand cases diagnosed. The most common mode of transmission in this year is heterosexual contact which was responsible for nearly 31 thousand new cases.
